If you’re wanting point-of-lay pullets coming onto the lay in late winter 2026 (yes, they’ll still be laying at approx. 20 weeks of age at this time of the year), these are the chicks you need to purchase!
Note – as we only sell small volumes of day-old chicks, it’s hard to justify our delivery model. Therefore, deliveries for chicks are only currently available to: Oamaru, Waimate, Timaru.

These chicks are ready for delivery on Thursday 16th April 2026 to our collection points in Oamaru, Waimate or Timaru.
We receive our brown shaver day-old chicks from a reputable hatchery here in the South Island. They are sexed before arrival (all female), and they’ve been vaccinated against Marek’s disease as well as had their first dose of a salmonella vaccine.
Chickens are flock animals – minimum purchase is three.
Until they grow feathers (approximately six weeks), chicks will require a reliable heat source such as a heat plate or lamp. Chick starter feed is also recommended for optimal growth and prevention against coccidiosis.
We are happy to advise you on options for a cosy, warm set-up and send you in the right direction for any other goods you may need to purchase before your chicks arrive – please get in touch with any queries you may have.
