This day-old chick hatch is due on the same weekend that our point of lay pullets are being delivered to South Canterbury, so we will combine the two deliveries (keeping the chicks separate from the pullets, with the heater on, and perhaps cheeping along to a few Dixie Chicks hits as we drive…). The SOUTH CANTERBURY CHICK DELIVERY DAY IS FRIDAY 3rd JULY 2026.
We receive our brown shaver day-old chicks from a reputable hatchery here in the South Island. They are sexed before arrival (all female), and they’ve been vaccinated against Marek’s disease as well as had their first dose of a salmonella vaccine.
Chickens are flock animals – minimum purchase is three.
Until they grow feathers (approximately six weeks), chicks will require a reliable heat source such as a heat plate or lamp. Chick starter feed is also highly recommended for optimal growth and prevention against coccidiosis.
We are happy to advise you on options for a cosy, warm set-up and send you in the right direction for any other goods you may need to purchase before your chicks arrive – please get in touch with any queries you may have.
